What families can and cannot expect to be told
Adults control their own health information. Behavioral health records are protected by
federal and state privacy law, which generally means TrueNorth cannot confirm whether
someone is in treatment, or discuss their care, without their written authorization.
That can feel like a closed door when you are worried. It is also part of what makes
treatment possible: people may speak more openly when they know what they say is
protected.
Information can still travel in your direction. If something seems important for a
clinical team to know, you can share it with us, even in situations where we are not
able to share anything back.
