Group Therapy
Clinical groups are the core of PHP. Topics may include relapse prevention, coping and emotional regulation skills, communication, shame and self-image, and the practical work of rebuilding a routine.
The most structured outpatient level of care TrueNorth offers, for adults who need substantial clinical support while continuing to live at home.
Partial hospitalization is the highest level of care TrueNorth Behavioral Health offers. It is designed for adults whose alcohol or substance use has reached a point where weekly counseling is no longer providing enough support, but who can participate safely in treatment while continuing to live at home.
Programming is intensive and clinically led, typically running several days per week. Day and evening options may be available. Between program days you go home rather than to a hospital unit, which means the skills you work on in group get tested in the environment where you actually live, work and recover.
How often you attend, how long you stay, and what your plan contains are based on individualized clinical assessment, and they are reviewed as your needs change.
TrueNorth does not provide detoxification, medically supervised withdrawal management, inpatient hospitalization or residential treatment. We are an outpatient provider.
For some adults, stopping or reducing alcohol or other substances requires medical supervision before outpatient treatment can be safe or effective. If your assessment suggests that may apply to you, our admissions team will help you identify an appropriate level of care first. PHP can be considered again once that step is complete and outpatient treatment is clinically appropriate.
If you are not sure whether this applies to you, say so during your first conversation. It is a common question, and asking it does not put your access to care at risk.
Admission and level-of-care decisions are based on individualized clinical assessment. PHP may be appropriate for adults who:
TrueNorth serves adults only. If PHP is not the right fit, we will say so, and we will discuss other options wherever we are able to.
Your plan is assembled from your assessment. Not every element below applies to every person, and a plan may change as you progress.
Clinical groups are the core of PHP. Topics may include relapse prevention, coping and emotional regulation skills, communication, shame and self-image, and the practical work of rebuilding a routine.
Individual sessions give you private time with a member of your treatment team for the work that does not belong in a group room.
With your consent, and when clinically appropriate, family members may be invited into parts of treatment to learn how to support recovery without taking it over.
Identifying triggers, high-risk situations and early warning signs, then deciding in advance what you will actually do when they appear.
Psychiatric evaluation and medication management may be offered when clinically indicated, coordinated with the rest of your treatment plan.
With appropriate authorization, we can coordinate with providers you already have so your care is not happening in disconnected pieces.
Education about substance use disorders, cravings, sleep, stress and the practical mechanics of early recovery.
Planning for what comes after PHP begins early in treatment rather than on your last day.
Substance use and mental health conditions frequently occur together, and treating one while setting the other aside tends not to hold.
When co-occurring conditions are present, PHP addresses them within the same treatment plan rather than sending you between disconnected systems. Psychiatric symptoms, substance use, relationships, environment and stress are considered together.
Psychiatric evaluation and medication management may be part of that plan when clinically indicated.
PHP is a level of care, not a destination.
As symptoms settle and a workable routine takes shape, the clinical team may recommend stepping down to our Substance Use Intensive Outpatient Program. IOP keeps structured group and individual work in place at a lower intensity, with more room for work, study and family responsibilities.
From IOP, many people continue into ongoing outpatient therapy, psychiatric follow-up and community recovery supports. Because discharge planning starts early in PHP, each step down is planned rather than abrupt.
You do not have to decide which level of care you need before you contact us.
A confidential assessment helps determine whether PHP, IOP, traditional outpatient care or a different level of treatment may be appropriate. If another provider is the better fit, we will discuss available options whenever possible.
TrueNorth is designed to serve commercially insured and private-pay patients. Accepted insurance plans will be listed as payer contracts become effective.
